Gadji-Gadjo is a festive world sextet inspired by Tzigane and Klezmer music. In their composition as well as in the traditional tunes they interpret, we can hear elements of jazz, classical and South American music, and even traditional music from Quebec.
Gadji-Gadji is: Melanie Bergeron on accordian, Pascal 'Per' Veillette on harmonicas, Pierre-Olivier Dufresne on violin, Jean Desrochers on guitar, Mathieu Deschenaux on bass and Ivan Bamford on percussions. They have performed at the Montreal Jazz Fest ('04, '05, '06, '08, '09, '10), le Festival Montréal en Lumières, the London Sun Festival, le Festival Mémoire et Racines de Joliette, le Festival du Bout du Monde à Gaspé as well as the Festival Juste Pour Rire. In 2008 the group began to share its music abroad playing across North America (notably New York, Los Angeles and Yukon!), throughout France and Romania.
In 2005 Gadji-Gadjo recorded it's first album which was a huge success, selling several thousand copies)

In 2007 they returned with Sur le Toit des Voisins, which won the Best World Album of the year at GAMIQ 2008 and was in nomination at ADISQ 2008 for Best Instrumental Album.

With their admiration and respect for the cultures of Eastern Europe, it is only natural that Gadji-Gadjo wanted to share their passion for this zesty, spirited music. GADJI-GADJO is a group with great complicity, and their pleasure in playing together is contagious! Now, still evolving, they are adding more of their own flavour to the music. With creative new compositions and masterful improvisations, there is no doubt that GADJI-GADJO is becomming a band to keep an eye on in the Québec world music scene.
Created by Melanie Bergeron in 2002, the musicians learned traditional pieces of the Klezmer/Tzigane repertoire and founded GADJI-GADJO. Coming from various regions of Québec, each musician adds her/his experience making a mix of jazz, classical, South American and Québec traditional influences. Soon their passion for the musics of Eastern Europe inspired them to compose for the group, and in 2004 they had several originals added to their repertoire. With violin, mandolin, clarinet and bass clarinet, accordeon, guitar, double-bass and percussion, the group was ready to make a splash on the world music scene from Québec.
After numerous successful concerts and an increasingly large fan base, GADJI-GADJO decided to produce their first album. Launched the 15th of June 2005, it took many listeners on a magnificent musical voyage. Original, energetic and critically acclaimed, the disc is part of Productions Mange-Ta-Main! and distributed by Outside music.
Soon they were making waves across Québec as they performed throughout the province. The Montréal International Jazz Festival ('04 to '10), le Festival Montréal en Lumières, Festival Mémoire et Racines at Joliette, Festival du Bout du Monde at Gaspé, Just For Laughs Festival are just some of the examples of places conquered by GADJI-GADJO. They've also toured through Québec (Gaspésie, Estrie, Charlevoix, Côte-Norde, Saguenay Lac-St-Jean, Montérégie, Lanaudière, Outaouais etc...).
The 19th of October 2007, GADJI-GADJO performed at the Lion d’Or for the launch of their second album, entitled Sur le Toit des Voisins (On the Neighbors Roof). The radios gave the disc much airplay and the critics are very enthusiastic. GADJI-GADJO launched the disc in several cities throughout Québec during the autumn of 2007. The 2nd disc is an evolution of the 1st, still more surprising and innovative.
In 2008-2009 GADJI-GADJO travelled abroad extensively, touring France, playing in Romania and touring North America (Philadelphia, Minnesota, New York, Canmore, Vancouver, Los Angeles and Dawson City Yukon)
In the beginning of 2010 GADJI-GADJO exchanged Clarinet for Harmonica. Pascal 'Per' Veillette has been a friend of the Gadjis for years and was a natural fit with his humour, virtuosity and his agile Québecois foot tapping. Together the new Gadjis are working on distinct new compositions for an album due out in the beginning of 2011, bringing a new blend of Eastern European Québecois music on to the scene.
